RICHARDSON, TEXAS (MARCH 17, 2022) – Ben Cressman, Assistant Head of Events at UTD Esports, shares our vision for the UTD Esports showing at Comet Con (hosted by SUAAB), happening Wednesday, March 23, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. CST at SSA 13.330.
Yep, you read that right: Esports. Comet Con. It’s happening. We are so excited to introduce what we have planned for you this year, and this time, it’s all about your participation, just like our Esports and Gaming community on campus (which you can participate in easily via our Discord server). Even if this event doesn’t pique your interest, we’ve got everything from weekly events, to streamed matches, to random PUG’s, and so much more; in other words, there are a ton of ways for you to get involved.
The Rundown
Don’t worry, we aren’t Charles Miner, and you aren’t Jim (well, we hope not). No frantic problem solving to figure out what’s going on here. All the information you need is right below.
Who: Esports and SUAAB. We’ve already talked about Esports, so let’s talk about SUAAB, the hosts of Springapalooza and organizers of Comet Con. They are, in a word, awesome. They host a variety of wonderful events throughout the entire semester, from comedy shows, to cosplay competitions, to karaoke, to concerts, to pretty much anything else you can think of. If Esports and Gaming isn’t your thing – heck, even if it is – we can’t recommend their events enough. Run by a passionate team of talented people, it really doesn’t get better than SUAAB on UTD campus.
What: Have you ever wanted to challenge a pro? This is your chance. Our Smash players, who have won nationals two years in a row, are going to be up on stage, ready to play sets against audience members. We’ll also have a speaker (announced soon) and some big-lobby Jackbox games with prizes (t-shirts, among other things – who doesn’t love free stuff, right?) for the top scorers. Check out our Twitter or Discord server for more information as it comes!
When: Wednesday, March 23, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. CST.
Where: SSA 13.330. It’s a very large auditorium located on the third floor of the Student Services Building Addition.
Why: Sitting through over three hours – more than a lecture’s worth – of talking or watching someone else play just doesn’t sound all that appealing. Our focus is on the audience actually having stuff to do, people to meet, games to play, and prizes to win. In other words, producing an event that really is worth your time.
