Q: How do I join a team?
A:
All applicants must meet standard academic requirements as well as in-game requirements. Info on the requirements and process to join a team can be found on our Teams page.

Q: Can I or anyone use the Esports Room?
A:
As much as we would love to have an open-door policy, we don’t have the resources to support public use. The Sector 7 Energy x UT Dallas Esports Room (located on the 2nd floor of the Student Union) can only be used by members of UT Dallas Esports. This includes student-athletes, coaching staff & creative staff leadership. There is currently work underway for a public gaming lounge soon to open on campus, so stay tuned!

Q: What is Discord?
A:
Discord is a modern and free text/voice communications app we use to keep our fans, students, and parents up to date with our department, teams, and creators! Here’s a parents 101 guide on using discord.

Q: Will you guys add/support more games or teams? Why don’t you guys add Call of Duty/CSGO/Apex/GameName?
A:
We currently support Overwatch, League of Legends, Rocket League, Valorant, and Smash Bros Ultimate. We will look into adding more games primarily based on student popularity, official developer support in the collegiate scene, department capacity, and at the discretion of the Esports Program Head.

We are very selective on what games we bring onto our university athletic team. It requires a lot of resources, time, and money to operate our teams so we have a very selective process on determining which games to add. TLDR; Games need to be hot in the competitive scene for us to even consider it, and additionally, there needs to be the skill level at UT Dallas to even form a team. If you don’t see a game that you play, START A CLUB TEAM! Take a look at the ones in #utd-gaming-clubs via our Discord.

Q: How can I support the current teams?
A:
You can help support UT Dallas Esports by coming out to our competitions, tournaments, and events by watching our steams at TwitchInstagramTwitter, and even playing video games with other students in our Discord and sharing the link with your friends! We encourage all students to help support our teams that way we can expand quicker at UT Dallas.

Q: I want to help the team with services, what can I do?
A: UT DALLAS DEPARTMENTS/OFFICES:
If you’re a part of a UT Dallas Department, please email or contact us.
CLUB: If you’re a gaming club and want to partner for events, please contact us.
INDIVIDUAL LOOKING TO WORK: While we may not have an active listing for a student staff job, you can direct message Esports Staff via our Discord Server if you are interested in helping the program with specific services (ie. writing, graphics designing, videography, etc).

Q: What if I want to compete under the university and I don’t make a varsity team, or it’s a game like Call of Duty, Apex, Fortnite, etc. that isn’t currently a part of varsity esports? Is there an official non-competitive team?
A:
We have plans in the works for supporting Academy Teams under UT Dallas Esports soon, but currently don’t support any other official teams. Stay tuned for more information to come! In the meantime, be sure to let us know what game you’re interested about in our Discord Server.

Q: Can I work with you guys?
A: Ask in #ask-a-question by pinging Esports Staff via our Discord Server.
